Mitigating climate change is the most pressing issue of the century for humanity. However, people across the globe often lack sufficient knowledge and understanding of our planet’s ecosystems. To address this challenge, we have developed an engaging and effective serious game that helps players learn about the environment while having fun. While the efficacy of serious games in teaching is debatable, we used an experimental pre- and post-test approach (n=33) to assess the effects and limitations of our serious game.We measured environmental knowledge and consciousness using literature-based questionnaires and evaluated the efficacy of our game based on the conducted study and its role as a mediation tool. Our findings show that the serious game resulted in significant improvements in environmental knowledge, although environmental consciousness did not increase significantly. Based on the statistical analysis and qualitative user feedback, we identified the strengths, weaknesses, and limitations of our approach and developed recommendations for future iterations to enhance its effectiveness.
